Katherine Heigl picks up Emmy nod despite withdrawing name

Katherineheiglpicture1 She criticized the low-quality scripts of "Grey's Anatomy" and withdrew her name for Emmy contention, but Katherine Heigl still picked up an acting nomination today. How is that possible? Apparently Emmy voters decided she should get an Emmy nomination as a write-in nominee.  One Emmy voter tells Dateline Hollywood:

"She wanted to withdraw her name from Emmy contention, but we, as responsible television voters, could not let that tragedy unfold before us. Katherine is such a talented actress who should not be left out. Anyone who has seen her on the big screen in the film 'Knocked Up' knows what an incredible range she has. Sorry, Katherine, you're just too an important of an actress to be left out."

Heigl has had no response to her surprise Emmy nomination. But in another development, Heigl has withdrawn her name from Oscar contention for her role in the film "27 Dresses," citing poor writing.

Grey's Anatomy writers thank Katherine Heigl

Heiglemmy As if tens of millions of TV viewers and movie ticket buyers weren't enough, Katherine Heigl has a new set of fans: the writers of "Grey's Anatomy."

Sources tell Dateline Hollywood that writers of the hit ABC soap are "touched" that Heigl is so invested in their success she declined to highlight the sub-par scenes they wrote this season by submitting herself for an Emmy nomination.

"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention," Heigl told the Los Angeles Times.

"We're so gratified that Katherine cares enough about our work to take this step," the "Grey's Anatomy" writing staff told Dateline Hollywood in a group statement. "Most stars are so narcissistic that they only consider the quality of their acting when submitting themselves for an Emmy. Katherine put our interests first by refusing to expose the shoddy material we wrote for her and then took the time to give us constructive criticism of our writing through the media. She may not win an Emmy this year, but she's the 'best actress' any group of writers could ask for."

Katherine Heigl hospitalized for dangerous levels of media overexposure

HeiglKatherine Heigl is in serious condition at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for dangerous high levels of media overexposure.  A doctor says, "We thought the overexposure would abate, but she's still suffering from nausea and dizziness which is exactly the same symptoms her viewers are feeling."

Apparently her symptoms started when she reprimanded an Emmy announcer for mispronouncing her name and for complaining to Vanity Fair about the misogyny in "Knocked Up," the very movie that made her a big star.
