Mark Cuban buys SEC after being charged with insider trading
Just one day after the Securities and Exchange Commission filed insider trading charges against former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant and billionaire Mark Cuban, the entrepreneur has purchased the SEC. The agency accused Cuban of using confidential information to dump 600,000 shares of Mamma.com, the Internet search company. But this morning, Cuban bought the SEC.
"These are tough economic times. Under normal circumstances, the SEC, which is a government agency, would never have been sold," explained Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox. "But Mr. Cuban made us an incredible offer for the agency. The government badly needs funds to deal with the economic crisis and we all agreed this made sense at this time."
Since acquiring the agency, Mark Cuban has dropped all charges against Mark Cuban.
"I am glad the SEC came to their senses and dismissed all these charges," said Cuban in a statement.
"If I had known that this was possible, I would have bought the SEC years ago," said Martha Stewart.
